Generally we work with our customer to define a specification for the device that you require. The specification will include as much detail as we can think of, however sometimes things we haven't thought of will surface during the design process, and that is fine, we work with the customer to fill in the missing parts of the specification as we discover what's missing. We feel it is essential to have a proper and complete specification for 2 reasons-
In the development process we take the specification and design the electronics, we create schematic drawings and from those we design a printed circuit board (PCB), we then order a number of bare PCBs and assemble the components. If the design requires firmware we will write the firmware. If the design requires other support, e.g. Test equipment, PC software, internet based software, scripts, databases we will provide this. At this point the prototype is complete and ready for you to test and evaluate. If the product is not to your liking then we work with you to make it right.
For most customers we are asked to just get on with it and we send the prototype to the customer when it's ready. For other customers we are asked to keep them informed of progress at every step. We are happy to provide whatever level of communication you want, our aim is to ensure that you are completely happy with the work that we are doing for you.
Once the specification has been produced we will be in a position to provide a quotation, the quotation includes all of our design charges and these will not change unless there is a change to the product specification that increases or decreases the amount work required, if so we will re-quote.
The quotation will also include an estimate of the cost of producing the prototype board(s) and also an estimate of the cost of producing production board(s). Once the design work has been completed we will provide an accurate quotation for the production of prototypes and production board(s).

When a product has been in production for some time it is common for a component to become expensive, or hard to procure, or a component may no longer be manufactured and have no drop-in replacement. We can take existing designs and update the parts of the design that are causing problems, we can redesign parts of the circuit that use obsolete components so they use current components. We can redesign parts of the circuit to replace expensive or hard to get components wich components that are lower cost and more readily available.
